Our standards

Editorial policy

We cite named sources for the facts we publish, with the date we checked them. We publish no average prices, rankings, reviews or invented people, and no one can pay to change a page. This policy covers what we publish, what we refuse, how we expect to be paid and how we fix mistakes.

Who this binds. Every page on HyrePlumber, written by the HyrePlumber Research Desk. HyrePlumber is not a plumbing company (who runs HyrePlumber). It repairs, installs and inspects nothing, and no company has paid for anything here.

Where do the facts come from?

Primary sources first: EPA WaterSense for fixture and leak figures, the EPA’s lead rule in its own words, the CPSC on scalding, the CDC on Legionella, the USGS on water hardness and the federal test method for water heater efficiency.

Time-sensitive claims carry the date we last checked them. The source is linked on the page, not kept in a file somewhere.

Plumbing rules come from a model code, the IPC or the UPC, as your state or city adopted and amended it.

We describe the model rule and tell you to confirm it with the building department that enforces it.

What will we not publish?

  • Fake averages. A national plumbing price presented as if it were your price.
  • Unsupported listings. Company listings, ratings or reviews we cannot support from primary sources.
  • Unproven claims. Testimonials, case studies, statistics, certifications or awards we cannot evidence.
  • Gas and electrical instructions. We never tell anyone how to work on a gas line or a water heater’s gas or electrical connections.
  • A diagnosis. No page or tool can say where your leak is, or what lead in your water means for your health. That takes a plumber, a lab test or a doctor.
  • Pages written to rank. Pages built around a phrase instead of a question someone actually has.

What happens when we do not know?

The page says so. That is why this site has no company directory today. The research behind one is still being built, and an honest empty space is worth more than a full list we cannot defend.

It is also why we quote no model code text. The IPC and UPC are paid standards, and our retrieval of the public reading rooms returned summaries, not code text, so we describe code concepts and name the code instead.

How do we expect to make money?

HyrePlumber expects to earn money by connecting homeowners with plumbing companies. That is not live yet, as how HyrePlumber works explains. When it is, it will be disclosed wherever it applies, and it will not decide what the guidance says.

Nobody can buy a placement, a ranking or a favorable description on this site. How plumbing companies will be checked explains why we never call a company trusted or approved.

How do we correct mistakes?

Tell us using the contact details below. We fix errors in place, change the review date, and note the correction where it changes the substance of what we said.

The HyrePlumber Research Desk. We publish under the organization instead of inventing named authors, because a byline with no real, accountable person behind it is decoration, not a fact. We cite named sources with the date we last checked them.
How does HyrePlumber make money?
We expect to be paid for connecting homeowners with plumbing companies. You are never charged. That is not live yet. When it is, it will be disclosed wherever it applies, and nobody can buy a placement, a recommendation or a change to a page.
Does a business relationship affect what you publish?
No. The test is whether the site ever publishes things that cost it business. It does: no average plumbing price, no rankings, no reviews we cannot support, and plain notes where our information is incomplete.
